How To Create A Product Rule With EasyGift

Product rules reward customers when specific products are in their cart. The reward can be added to the cart automatically, or shown in a popup so the customer chooses it themselves.

In this article, we'll explain how to create your first product rule.

Step 1: Create Your Rule

• From the Shopify admin, open the EG app.
• Click Create rule and give your new rule a name you'll recognise.

Step 2: Set Your Trigger Type

• Select Products as the trigger.

Step 3: Choose What The Rule Triggers On

• A total quantity of these products – for example, 2 items in total, which could be apples, bananas, or a mix of both.
• A total monetary value of these products – for example, $50 worth of apples, bananas, or both.
• All of these products at the same time – for example, an apple and a banana are both in the cart.
• A specific combination of these products – for example, 3 apples and 2 bananas in the cart.

Step 4: Choose Your Trigger Products

• Click Choose products and select your trigger product or products.
• Click Add.

Step 5: Rule Trigger Options

• Remove added products when the trigger is no longer met – if the customer removes a trigger product, EG removes the reward too. This option must be on if you use an EG automatic discount.
• Stack rewards – lets the reward be added more than once when the trigger is met several times. You can set a maximum trigger limit.
• Only execute the rule once per session – the rule fires once per visit, even if the conditions are met again later, unless the browser cookies are cleared.

Step 6: Choose Your Rule Action

• Automatically add products to cart – EG adds the reward for the customer. Best for single-variant items such as samples or gift cards.
• Show a popup – the customer chooses from the products or variants you offer (for example a size or colour). You can set the headline, sub-headline and image, and show or hide prices. Available on paid plans.
• Then select the reward products and the quantity to add. Reward products must be available on your Online Store sales channel and in stock.

Step 7: Rule Action Options

• Prevent customers adding the reward outside the rule – only EG can add the reward to the cart. Use this to protect free or discounted items. (This has been tested extensively, but we can't give a 100% guarantee on themes that aren't Shopify-approved.)
• Show a notification – EG can show a short message when the reward is added. You can customise the text, image and where it appears.

Step 8: Choose Whether To Discount Your Reward

1. EG automatic discount (recommended) – created from the rule page and applied only to items EG added, so the saving shows in the cart straight away.
2. Shopify automatic discount – created from the rule page or picked from your existing discounts. Only available for rules that apply to all customers.
3. Shopify promo code – EG applies the code automatically when the rule fires. The saving usually appears only at checkout.
4. No discount – for popup upsells sold at full price, or auto-add rewards that are already priced at zero.

Step 9: Schedule

• Run the rule continuously, or set a start and end date.

Step 10: Save Your Rule

• Click Save, then test the rule on your store.
